SC vet park improvements won't hinder Memorial Day

ORANGEBURG, S.C. (AP) - A parking lot at the Orangeburg Veterans Memorial Park won't be completed for a service there this weekend.

Orangeburg City Administrator John Yow told The Times and Democrat of Orangeburg ( ) the 10-space lot will improve accessibility for people in wheelchairs and the elderly. But he says the winter ice and snow storms delayed the construction.

The Memorial Day service is scheduled for Sunday afternoon.

The memorial features a 25-foot obelisk and six granite panels recognizing individuals from Orangeburg County who died serving the country in times of war.

The project is paid for through the Veterans Memorial Park fund and the city's hospitality and accommodations tax.
