CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- State Department of Transportation officials said Monday that there could be progress on pushing through the I-526 project.
According to Chairman John Edwards, a meeting is slated for Thursday where the SCDOT Commission will look to approve the revised $560 million contract. If the commission determines that all legal hurdles are cleared, including making sure the DOT isn't on the hook for overruns and extra costs and that the roadway is built to DOT standards, then the project will be able to move forward.
If for some reason the commission does not resolve all of the legal matters, the group will put off the matter until January.
If the commission votes to move ahead with the project, it will be the first steps made in completing the extension over Johns and James islands since last December.
