SCE&G testing sirens at Jenkinsville nuclear plant
JENKINSVILLE, S.C. (AP) -- South Carolina Electric & Gas is testing its emergency siren system at its nuclear power plant in Fairfield County.
The utility says it is sounding the warning system around the V.C. Summer Nuclear Station in Jenkinsville around 1 p.m. on Tuesday.
SCE&G says it will test the 106 sirens within a 10-mile radius around the plant for one minute. The company regularly tests the sirens each quarter.
During a real emergency, SCE&G says the sirens would go off without advance warning and alert people in the area to tune into to radio or television stations for more information and instructions.
