School board member arrested in Howard's Rock vandalism won't resign
BREVARD, N.C. (AP) -- A Transylvania County School Board member arrested in connection with the vandalism of Howard's Rock at Clemson says he will not resign.
The Times-News of Hendersonville reported that 46-year-old Michael Rogers told the board Tuesday he will not resign after being charged with felony counts of obstructing justice and conspiracy.
The charges were filed after Rogers' son, Micah Rogers, was accused of damaging Howard's Rock June 2.
Board chairwoman Tawny McCoy says the board has no authority to remove a member accused of a crime.
Clemson University police arrested and charged Rogers and a Brevard teen last week. A warrant accuses Rogers of encouraging people to lie about their actions.
Micah Rogers is charged with malicious injury to personal property, trespassing; and illegal entry.
