      SCHP: Driver dead after car hit tree in Berkeley Co.

      BERKELEY COUTY, S.C. (WCIV) -- One person is dead after a car struck a tree early Sunday morning, said officials with the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

      Officials said the driver was traveling on Fish Road at about 12:30 a.m. when the car struck a tree, killing the driver.

      The driver was not wearing a seatbelt, officials said.

      Coroner Bill Salisbury has identified the victim as 25 year old Michael Jordan Thigpen of the LebanonCommunity of Berkeley County. Thigpen died from body trauma.

      The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
