SCHP: Driver killed after head-on collision with log truck in Georgetown
GEORGETOWN, S.C. (WCIV) -- The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash that happened Wednesday morning.
According to SCHP Corporal Sonny Collins, the two-vehicle collision resulted in one fatality.
The accident happened around 11:45 a.m. on Browns Ferry Road (SC Hwy 51).
Cpl. Collins said the driver of a 1990 Chevy pickup was killed. It is not known if he was wearing his seatbelt.
The driver of a 2000 International log truck was taken to MUSC.
SCHP deputies said the pickup was traveling north on Hwy 51 when it crossed the center line and hit the southbound truck, loaded with logs, head on.
The coroner has identified the deceased driver as 70-year-old Ben Prew of Nesmith, SC.
The 50-year-old log truck driver was taken to MUSC.
