Coroner: 89-year-old driver killed after stopping on I26
BERKELEY, S.C. (WCIV) -- The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal accident that happened on Interstate 26 just after midnight Monday.
According to SCHP officials, the driver of a 2013 Nissan stopped on I-26 eastbound near mile marker 203 and was blocking two lanes.
Another driver, identified as a 57-year-old man, was driving east on I-26 and struck the Nissan with his vehicle.
Lance Cpl. Judd Jones said the driver of the Nissan was not wearing his seatbelt and was taken to Trident where he later passed away.
The coroner has identified the deceased as 89-year-old Albert Szczepkowski of Bradenton, Fl.
It is not known if any charges are pending.
