SCHP: Woman dies on I-95 while trying to leave moving car

JASPER COUNTY, S.C. (WCIV) -- A woman was hit and killed by a tractor trailer on Interstate 95 Sunday evening when she tried to exit another moving vehicle.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the incident happened in the southbound lanes of I-95 near mile marker 33.

Troopers say traffic was rerouted around the area. Drivers were directed off the interstate at exit 38 and given an opportunity to get back on I-95 at exit 33.

Investigators have determined that a woman tried to exit a moving vehicle in the left lane and was hit by a tractor trailer that was traveling in the right lane, troopers said.

Officials said they do not have any more information on the woman's identity or why she was apparently exiting the vehicle.
