SC's newly named US senator to visit Lexington

LEXINGTON, S.C. (AP) -- U.S. Sen. Tim Scott is planning to tour Lexington.

His office says the Republican is taking a walking tour of the town on Thursday. Scott is also meeting with area leaders including Lexington Mayor Randy Halfacre.

Scott has been making stops throughout South Carolina since he was sworn in earlier this month as the state's newest U.S. senator.

Gov. Nikki Haley appointed him to fill the next two years of the term of Jim DeMint, who resigned to take the helm of the Heritage Foundation in Washington.
