Search for missing Horry County woman intensifies

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) - Authorities and volunteers plan a massive search this weekend for a 20-year-old Horry County woman who has not been seen in more than a week.

Heather Elvis' family says she was last heard from around 3 a.m. Dec. 18, after she went on a date. Her cellphone gave out its last signal around that time, and her car was found abandoned at a boat landing Dec. 19.

Horry County Police and volunteers have spent the last week looking for Elvis, but have found no trace.

This weekend, the CUE Center for Missing Persons is intensifying the search, asking dozens of boaters to help them search the Waccamaw River and Intracoastal Waterway near Socastee. The group also wants dozens of volunteers to search the land around the boat ramp.
