Defense Secretary Hagel touches down in Charleston
JOINT BASE CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) - Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel arrived Tuesday night to Charleston ahead of his Wednesday tour of Joint Base Charleston.
Secretary Hagel is on a three-day trip to domestic Air Force bases along the East Coast.
During his visit, Mr. Hagel will learn about flying and support operations conducted by the Air Force here in Charleston, Joint Base Charleston officials said.
Mr. Hagel will also be meeting with representatives from Boeing on Wednesday in order for them to demonstrate the engine maintenance support the company provides to the Air Force.
Secretary Hagel is scheduled to attend a town hall meeting with about 300 Department of Defense civilian employees to discuss the Federal Budget sequestration and civilian worker furloughs in the Department. A question and answer session with the Secretary is scheduled for that time.
The Secretary kicks off his tour of Joint Base Charleston around 9:15 a.m. Wednesday morning with plans of wrapping up in the afternoon before continuing his tour at Camp LeJune in North Carolina.
