RIDGEVILLE, S.C. (WCIV) -- A section of I-26 eastbound was closed on Monday around the 187 mile marker due to a fire involving a tractor trailer.

Traffic was rerouted at the 177 exit (Harleyville), travel down US-178 onto Highway 78, onto Jedburg Road and back onto I-26 at the 194 mile marker entrance ramp.

Officials said the fire started in the hood of the truck and then extended to the trailer -- a trailer filled with computer parts.

The materials and chemicals in the parts made the fire difficult to contain. Officials said the fire was extremely hot. When firefighters arrived, the fire was about 800 degrees.

Officials say the driver of the truck was not injured. He smelled smoke and pulled to the shoulder without incident.

The eastbound lanes of I-26 were blocked until about 6:30 p.m. when one of the lanes was temporarily reopened.

Both lanes were expected to be closed until at least 10:00 p.m.
