Sen. DeMint: We can save small business

U.S. Sen. Jim DeMint (Brandon Geier/WCIV)

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) - U.S. Sen. Jim DeMint was in Charleston Tuesday and joined with business leaders to discuss what they say are obstacles to creating and growing small businesses.

DeMint was in the Lowcountry as part of his Saving Small Business Tour. Tuesday, he met with members of the National Federation of Independent Business.

One of the main points DeMint discussed was a slew of tax breaks for small businesses that are set to expire at the end of 2012. If those are allowed to expire, DeMint said, small businesses will be hit hard by tax increases.

"This is helpful for me just to have confirmed by people who are actually doing business, who built their own businesses, to confirm what we need to do in Washington," he said.{} "And, that's to get out of the way. All the things we think we're doing to help people are hurting people. They're hurting those that need to get jobs and they are hurting those who are trying to create the opportunities."
