Sex offenders will have Halloween curfew
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WCIV) -- Sex offenders in South Carolina will be subject to a three-and-a-half-hour curfew on Halloween, state Department of Probation, Parole and Pardon Services officials said Friday.
The curfew runs from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., officials said, and applies to all those in South Carolina currently under supervision for a sex offense.
"The Halloween curfew worked well in the past to provide peace of mind to the public," said SCDPPPS Director Kela E. Thomas. "We want parents to know that there is an extra measure of protection when their children go trick-or-treating."
The curfew will be enforced via "surveillance techniques," officials said.
Four offenders were arrested last year after authorities conducted "house checks" on Halloween, according to a news release from SCDPPPS.
