COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Democratic state Sen. Vincent Sheheen has $1.7 million for his rematch with Gov. Nikki Haley, who touts a campaign-record fundraising quarter that boosted her available cash to nearly $4.5 million.
Campaign reports filed late Thursday show Sheheen's campaign raised more than $500,000 in the quarter that ended July 1. Haley raised twice as much.
Sheheen's campaign says more than 94 percent of his donations came from South Carolinians, who gave on average less than $200.
Haley's fundraising included five out-of-state events, in Arkansas, New Jersey, Texas, and Florida. Sheheen held one fundraiser in the District of Columbia.
Potential petition candidate Tom Ervin has about $32,000 on hand. Ervin has put in more than $1.5 million of his own money.
Haley defeated Sheheen in 2010 by 4.5 percentage points.Copyright 2014 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed.
