CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) - Charleston County Sheriff Al Cannon was given the Patriot Award by the Employer Support of Guard and Reserves.
The group gives the award to employers they say support their employees who serve in the National Guard and Reserve Military.
Cannon was nominated by his employees for the award.
"The military has been an important part of my life," said Sheriff Al Cannon. "I spent four years on active duty and 29 years on reserve. They have tremendous input on who I am, why and how I do things."
The Charleston County Sheriff's Office has 14 sworn personnel assigned to the National Guard and military Reserves with five who are currently active. The Sheriff Al Cannon Detention Center has 15 personnel with three on activation.
