Shots fired after store employee is attacked with sticks, robbed

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- Charleston police are looking for four men who they say robbed a man after attacking him with sticks.

Officers arrived around 3 a.m. to a convenience store at 2739 Spruill Avenue. The victim told police a regular customer had informed him that four men were hanging around the side of the store.

The victim says he went out to investigate, but didn't see anything so he went back inside the store.

A few moments later, police say he went back outside and was attacked by four black men dressed all in black with hoodies over their heads. The suspects reportedly struck the victim with what he described as sticks and took money from him.

Police say three of the suspects ran off towards{}Clements Avenue{}and the fourth ran towards{}Burton lane.

After the assault, police say the victim retrieved his handgun from inside the store, went outside and fired several shots into the air.

A clerk says the attacked employee got a few stitches and is OK. We're also told the suspects didn't enter store or take anything from the store.
