Shots fired into West Ashley home

WEST ASHLEY, S.C. (WCIV) -- Shots were fired into a West Ashley home Thursday night, Charleston police said.{}

According to an incident report, the shooting happened around 8:30 p.m. Thursday at a home on Dogwood Road. The victim told Charleston County deputies that she was in her living room talking to another person when she heard what she thought was fireworks. She then realized that someone was shooting into the house, the report states.{}

The victim said she heard several shots; one of them shattered the window on her front door.{}

Another person in the house said he thought the people in the car were shooting at him, but he did not know why, the report states.{}

Officers found a car had been hit by a bullet. Investigators also recovered five .40-caliber shell casings from the road outside the home.

Officers were looking for a red Dodge Avenger based on witness statements, but did not find a matching car in the area.{}
