COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH)-- The State Fair's opening night is marred by injuries from a malfunctioning ride.

We're hearing reports that a mechanical mishap on one of the rides at the fairgrounds has injured several people.

State Fair general manager Gary Goodman says six people were hurt on the Banzai ride Wednesday evening.

Two young people were treated for bumps and bruises, three others with minor cuts on their arms, and another person was hit in the arm with a piece of metal.

Goodman says all of the injured were treated at a first aid stand and released.

The ride is now shut down and won't re-open until state inspectors give it the green light.
