SLED asked to investigate shooting during Ladson traffic stop

LADSON, S.C. (WCIV) - One person was wounded in a shooting during a traffic stop Friday night in Ladson.

Deputies were not involved in the shooting, according to the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies say officers made a traffic stop on College Park Road around 9:30 p.m. Friday. At the time of the stop, a shooting happened inside the car.

Deputies say a 21-year-old man was wounded and taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. He was reportedly treated and released.

Deputies arrested 27-year-old Jermane Antone Sanders, of Summerville, on an outstanding warrant.

Sheriff's office officials asked the State Law Enforcement Division to investigate the shooting and have deferred all questions about the investigation to state police.

Deputies say it's standard procedure for SLED to investigate because there had been a traffic stop at the time of the shooting.
