COLUMBIA, S.C. (WCIV) - Defense attorneys are asking for a an independent investigation into the power outage that caused the State Law Enforcement Division's DUI records computer.
The server that maintains all of the state's DUI records crashed in July and it took the agency more than a month to restore it.
SLED spokesman Thom Berry confirmed reports that a problem with the state agency's electrical system actually caused the outage. Initially, SLED reported lightning caused the outage.
Berry said earlier this month that all the files are back on the server. Some of the cases went back as far as 22 years.
The state spent reportedly $250,000 making repairs.
