Small business in Charleston awarded $8 million

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) - The Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Southeast awarded $8 million to a Charleston small business for work to be done at Joint Base Charleston.

NAVFAC awarded the contract on July 13 to Ikhana, LLC based in North Charleston.

Ikhana will be responsible for building training facilities at the base like classrooms, administrative space, and equipment storage.{}

"We are proud to be a part of this project as it is our first at Joint Base Charleston," said Ikhana President Jeff Davis in a news release by NAVFAC. "We are an up and coming 8(a) firm that is doing really well competing with other small businesses regarding federal projects."

The project is expected to be completed by October of 2013.

According to the NAVFAC release, small businesses employ more than 58 percent of the private work force. NAVFAC says they are committed to maximizing opportunities for America's 27 million small businesses.{}
