Speaker Harrell hospitalized, diagnosed with respiratory illness

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WCIV) -- House Speaker Bobby Harrell was hospitalized this week after battling what he described as "flu-like symptoms" for two weeks.{}

In a statement released Wednesday, he said he went to see a doctor and was hospitalized overnight so that his condition could be monitored.{}

Harrell said the medical staff diagnosed him as having respiratory illness.{}

"I followed mydoctor's advice, and was released from the hospital earlier today. After takingtoday to rest up, I plan to be at the State House tomorrow to gavel the Houseinto session," Harrell said.{}
