Special Olympics Regatta wraps up on James Island

JAMES ISLAND, S.C. (WCIV) -- The Special Olympics sailing regatta wrapped up Sunday.

Nine teams from South Carolina and four teams from North Carolina tried to get back out on the water, but strong winds kept them on land. Still, organizers say the event was more than just sailing.

"What I like most about sailing is that I hand out with my friends all the time," said Christopher Pilcher, who competed in the regatta.

Sailing is one of 25 Special Olympic sports offered in South Carolina. One team from the state will even have the opportunity to go to the 2015 World Summer Games in Los Angeles.

"It's really, really neat how people come out here and just want to support Special Olympics sailing," said Jacob Raymond, Pilcher's sailing partner.
