Spur, part of incentive, almost done in Orangeburg
ORANGEBURG, S.C. (AP) - A new rail spur that is part of a more than half million dollar state incentive package for a company in Orangeburg is almost complete.
The Times and Democrat of Orangeburg reports the spur connecting Universal Trade Solutions' manufacturing, warehouse and distribution center to the Norfolk Southern line should be finished by mid-July.
The spur was part of an incentive package that brought the company to an unoccupied warehouse in 2011. Most of the almost $550,000 cost of the spur comes from a Commerce Department grant.
United Trade Solutions stores and distributes metal parts for manufacturers. It promised to invest $10 million and employ at least 50 workers. It now employs 40. A company official says that should grow to 100 in the next few years.
