St. John's Fire District names 4 finalists in chief search

      JOHNS ISLAND, S.C. (WCIV) - The St. John's Fire District Commission narrowed its search for a new chief to four finalists. The four candidates will visit the area April 18-19.

      The group of four has been whittled down from an initial list of 51 candidates.

      The Commission has been working on an executivesearch with Emergency Services Consulting International since theformer chief, Karl Ristow, resigned in December. After serving 15 years, Ristow moved to Maryland.

      Deputy Chief Jackie Stanley has been serving as theInterim Chief.

      The four finalists will participate in a Meetand Greet that is open to the public from 5 - 7 p.m., Thursday April 18 atthe Hilton Garden Inn in North Charleston. On Friday, April 19 the candidates will participate ininterviews with the nine member St. John's Fire Commission.


      The four finalists are:

      Bruce Faust {}- Deputy Chief/Fire Marshal, Washington, DC.Deputy Chief Faust is a 25 year veteran of the Washington DC Fire and EMS department.{} Heholds Associates and Bachelor's degrees in Fire Science Administration.

      Philip Myer - Former chief at FauquierCounty (VA) fire Rescue and Emergency Management; currently is consulting inthe Homeland Security area. Myer holds a Bachelor's degree in Fire Science.

      Mark Schrade - Chief of St. Andrews Fire and Rescue District.{} Prior to St. Andrews, Schrade has chiefexperience in Ohio.{} He holds a Bachelor's degree in BusinessAdministration.

      Colleen Walz - Deputy Chief, Pittsburg, PAFire Department.{} She has been with Pittsburg for over 25years. Walz holds a Bachelor's Degree and a Master's Degree in Leadership andDisater Preparedness.
