Stables in Pee Dee offering therapy for vets
TIMMONSVILLE, S.C. (AP) - A riding stable in the Pee Dee that offers physical and emotional therapy for children is taking on a new challenge - helping the nation's wounded veterans.
The Morning News of Florence reports (http://bit.ly/1n6cXp7 ) that Bethlehem Therapeutic Riding Stables in Timmonsville has a new contract with the Wounded Warriors program to provide veterans services.
Stable owner Gwen Maddrix started Bethlehem about five years ago.
With a grant from the local nonprofit group, Women in Philanthropy, Bethlehem was able to prepare and improve stables, grounds, rings and trails at the Tally Ho Equestrian Center to secure the veteran's contract.
Opening the program had some challenges. Testing for the new veterans program was delayed a bit by this year's winter ice storms.
