State rep holds healthcare open house ahead of deadline

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- The deadline to purchase healthcare through the Affordable Care Act is just a couple days away. On Saturday, state Rep. David Mack held an open house at Burns Elementary School.{}

The open house aimed to help people sign up for a health insurance plan and answer any questions they had about the plans or the new law.{}

"If you don't have your health you don't have anything. There are navigators here that can answers all your questions with regards to the Affordable Care Act, get you plugged in. You navigate the system you see what fits for you what fits into your income level and things of that nature and it's been a great day," said Mack.{}

Uninsured people who do not sign up for a plan by Monday will face a tax penalty.{}

The next open enrollment period starts on Nov. 15. For people who wait until that date, their insurance plan would not kick in until 2015.
