Stingrays raise over $24K to fight breast cancer


NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV)-- The South Carolina Stingrays announced that the team's Pink in the Rink jersey auction following the sixth annual Pink in the Rink game generated over $24,000 to fight breast cancer.The Stingrays defeated the Gwinnett Gladiators 5-2 in front of 6,114 fans at the North Charleston Coliseum Saturday.A total of 24 jerseys were auctioned off at the end of the game with the highest bid coming for Captain Matt Scherer's jersey at $2,600. Forward Maxime Lacroix ($1,700), goaltender Philipp Grubauer ($1,400), and defensemen Johann Kroll ($1,200) and Zach Tarkir ($1,200) were among the other top jerseys sold. {}Proceeds from the auction benefit the Susan G. Komen Lowcountry foundation to fight breast cancer.

The Stingrays return to action Wednesday, February 29 against the Gladiators at 7:05 p.m. at The Arena at Gwinnett Center. Tuesday, March 6 is 2-for-1 Ticket Night with the Stingrays where you can get two tickets for the price of one at the North Charleston Coliseum Box Office and watch the Stingrays square off against the Trenton Titans at 7:05 p.m.
