Strawberry U-Pick open at Boone Hall Farms

MOUNT PLEASANT (WCIV) -- The strawberry "U-Pick" operation is now open at Boone Hall Farms.{}

That means you can head out and pick your own strawberries every Monday through Saturday from now through the first week of June.{} Picking hours are from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m.

Farm workers say the mild winter produced an early crop that's yielding large, sweet berries.{} The cost of the U-Pick:{} $1.59/pound.

Also out at Boone Hall Farms -- the famous peach trees are returning.{} They were destroyed by all the rain from hurricanes in the early 2000s.

There{}is now a new drainage system in place at the farm, allowing{}the trees to get just enough water -- but not too much.{}

2,100 new baby peach trees have been planted on 16 acres of the plantation on Long Point Road, and if all goes well, the first peaches should be out in two years, with the first full crop ready in three.
