SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCIV) - Summerville Medical Center's new 4,000-square-foot pediatric emergency center is set to have a ribbon cutting ceremony Friday.
The new units will open in the coming weeks.
The new center will offer around-the-clock emergency care for children up to 17 years old and features kid-friendly rooms and a dedicated entrance and waiting room separate from the adult emergency entrance and waiting area.
"No parent should have to drive far for emergency pediatric care. The residents of Dorchester County, North Charleston and the surrounding communities deserve peace of mind when it comes to their children's health, and we are happy to provide it," said SMC CEO Lou Caputo.
The Summerville Medical Center is also in the process of building a new inpatient pediatric unit on the second floor beside the nursery. That unit is set to open in February.
