Summerville police launch text, email alert service

SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCIV) -- The Summerville Police Department launched on Wednesday a new service that allows officials to send important community information to residents via emails and text messages.{}

The Nixle Community Information Service allows police to create, publish and deliver essential information to subscribers. The notifications can also be seen on the company's website,{}

According to a release from Summerville police, the messages can even be delivered to a specific quarter-mile area.{}

By signing up, residents have the ability to choose which agencies can send them messages and how they are received.{}
