Bond set at $600,000 for accused bank robber caught in hotel

MT. PLEASANT, S.C. (WCIV) - A man tried to rob a Mount Pleasant bank Wednesday morning and run back to his hotel, but was caught in the act, police said.

Police responded to the Sun Trust Bank on Johnnie Dodds Boulevard around 9:15 a.m. Wednesday after the bank's alarm was triggered.

According to Maj. Stan Gragg with the Mt. Pleasant police, one suspect "armed with a weapon" was arrested for the robbery. While Gragg did not mention the use or threat of a bomb, the Charleston Explosive Devices Team was on the scene.

Gragg said the suspect, a white male, was a registered guest at the Holiday Inn Express and ran back to the hotel after the robbery which is where he was arrested.

Officers later identified the suspect as 55-year-old Craig S. Ozarowski. In the room Ozarowski rented, police found an air-soft pistol.

Police credit witnesses who kept Ozarowski in sight immediately following the robbery, saying it was their accounts that led police to the{}his location.

He has been charged with armed robbery and{}possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.

Ozarowski's bond was set at $600,000.
