Suspect arrested in deadly Columbia shooting
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Authorities have arrested a man suspected of shooting another man to death in Columbia.
The Columbia Police Department tells local media outlets that 35-year-old Christopher D. Robinson was arrested Wednesday and charged with murder and weapons possession.
Earlier Wednesday, Richland County Coroner Gary Watts in a news release identified the victim as 28-year-old Heyward S. Jackson. He was pronounced dead at a hospital after being shot in the upper body multiple times on Tuesday afternoon.
Authorities are still investigating, but Chief Skip Holbrook says officers don't think the shooting was random.
Police say Robinson's criminal history dates back nearly two decades, with arrests on charges including armed robbery, assault and criminal domestic violence.
