Thanksgiving travel weather is looking good

      By Tom Crawfordtcrawford@abcnews4.com

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- Many of us will be traveling to some extend for Thanksgiving day and into the weekend. And according to AAA, travel will be up by 0.7percent this year from last year.

As many as 43.6 million Americans will traveling more than50 miles this year with 90 percent of those hitting the road and driving. Lessmoney will be spent and that may be from the slight decrease in gas prices. Ormaybe moms are just saying, 'Lets pack that lunch and eat it on the roadinstead of stopping off at the drive-thru for that burger."

Before you hit the road, let's talk about some things thatneed to be addressed. Make sure your car is ready for that trip weather yourgoing to grandma's house in the upstate or to Uncle John's in Jacksonville Florida.

Make sure you check those areas that are most importantlike, tire pressure, oil and water levels, the spare tire is good. Insuranceinfo is a must to carry, if not on you then in the glove box.

I recently had a discussion with a AAA representative andshe said that everyone should have the road assistance coverage. It's less than$100 a year and it travels with the person who has the policy and not the car.So in other words, if you are riding in your brother's car and need road-sideassistance, your policy will take care of it.

Weather will play a big part in the travels of many, sowe'll keep this article to much of the southeast within a four or five hourdrive.

Let's start with the Charlestonarea. Thanksgiving Day is looking great with plenty of sunshine and highstopping in the upper 60s to around 70. Friday and into the Saturday willcontinue to see plenty of sunshine along with highs in the mid to upper 60s.Sunday will be a little cooler with low 60s. Overnight lows will fall into themid to upper 40s.

Greenville/Spartanburg and the Upstate will be under thesame weather influence with highs in the mid to upper 60s for Thanksgiving Day,followed by the low 60s on Sunday. Overnight lows in the mid 30s to around 40.

As we head into the peach tree state of Georgia, let's say Atlanta, then look for abundant sunshinealong with upper 60s for Thursday and Friday followed by mid 60s on Saturdayand low 60s for Sunday. Overnight lows will be in the upper 30s to low 40s.

If Jacksonville Beach iswhere your travels take you, then you'll love Jacksonville Beachalong with plenty of Floridasunshine. Anita Bryant couldn't invite you better to the sunshine state. Expectsunny skies along with upper 60s to low 70s. Overnight lows will fall into themid to upper 40s.

So for the most part, much of the travel in the southeastwill be rain free. A jacket will be needed for the overnight, with shortsleeves for many areas during the day.

      Happy travels and Happy Thanksgiving.
