SPARTANBURG, S.C. (CIT) - Citadel senior midfielder Mariana Garcia has been named the Southern Conference women's soccer player of the week for all competition Aug. 26 to Sept. 1. The selection is made by the league office.

Garcia scored four goals in two games on the week as the Bulldogs were unbeaten with a 3-1 win over Jacksonville State and a 1-1 draw with Canisius.

The Bogota, Colombia, native scored all three goals against the Gamecocks on Friday, notching the first hat trick of her career and first for The Citadel since 2010.

Garcia followed that up with another goal Sunday, scoring with just 54 seconds left in regulation against the Golden Griffins to send the game to overtime and preserve The Citadel's unbeaten week.

The Southern Conference's active career leader with 75 points, 35 goals and 12 game-winners, Garcia is also The Citadel's school record-holder in all three categories.

The weekly award is the first in the career of Garcia, the 2010 SoCon Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year and a three-time all-conference selection.

The Bulldogs (1-2-1) are back in action Sunday when they host Charleston Southern at Washington Light Infantry Field at 2 p.m.

Also nominated: Julia Holz (Appalachian State), Rachel Locke (Davidson), Georgia Brown (UNCG), Malcanisha Kelley (Samford), Crystal Mackezyk (Chattanooga), Markie-Lynn Studnicky (Western Carolina) and Chloe Brackett (Wofford).
