Myrtle Beach Golf Course Owners Assoc. names "Course of the Year"

      MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WCIV) - The Dunes Golf and Beach Club is the 2012 "Course of the Year" after a vote by the Myrtle Beach Area Golf Course Owners Association.

      Dunes Club now advances to the state competition, which announces a winner sometime in mid-August.

      "We are thrilled to be recognized as Course of the Year in the Myrtle Beach area," said Dennis Nicholl, Dunes Club head professional, in a Monday press release. "To be selected from among so many fine golf courses in this area is truly an honor. We look forward to representing the Myrtle Beach golf industry as we advance to the state and national levels."

      The course has already received national recognition.{} The course has been named in "Top 100 Courses" by Golf Magazine, Golf Digest and Golfweek, and the 13th hole known as "Waterloo," has been selected by Golf Digest as one of the "Best 18 Holes in America."{}

      The state competition is between the five regional winners in South Carolina.{} State winners advance to the national competition in San Diego next February.
