The Huddle Week 1: Breaking down the big games

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCIV) - ABC News 4's Scott Eisberg and the Post and Courier's Andrew Miller make their picks on the biggest games of the week in high school football. How will they fare? Tune in each week to find out!

Game 1: Ashley Ridge and James Island

Miller says Ashley Ridge will have too many athletes for James Island to handle for a full four quarters of football, and picks the Ridge over James Island.

Eisberg says James Island is riding momentum and the season is being fueled by emotion as they take the field each week for two fallen players and should not be discounted. Add to that, they have a new coach in Ike Allred who is running a high tempo offense. So Eisberg takes James Island over Ashley Ridge.

Game 2: Beaufort at Colleton County

In the Friday Night Rivals Game of the Week, Beaufort makes the drive to Walterboro where Miller says Colleton County won't have enough to take down the visitors. Beaufort comes away with the win over the son of one of Miller's favorite players, Norman Hand.

Eisberg again sees things differently and takes the home team over Beaufort, pointing to Latrell Nieves and Chris Collins as big reason why there will be cheers on the front porch of the Lowcountry Friday night.

Game 3: Berkeley and Stratford

Miller and Eisberg come to the same conclusion on this game: Stratford over Berkeley in a tough fight.

For Miller, it comes down to the Knights losing quarterback Jacob Park to Georgia and coach Ray Stackley to retirement. Even though Berkeley is on the right path as of late, Stratford will pull out the win, he says.

Eisberg says Joe Marion's debut as the top Knight will provide the momentum needed for Stratford to win.

Game 4: Summerville and Cane Bay

Cane Bay has a tough matchup Friday, taking on John McKissick's Summerville Green Wave. Summerville is coming off a commanding win over Charlotte, N.C.'s Providence. It's just too much for Cane Bay, say Eisberg and Miller.

Game 5: Hanahan and Timberland

Perhaps one of the toughest decisions of the week, the game could go either way, and again Eisberg and Miller split the decision. Both teams have great football traditions and incredible athletes on both sides of the ball, says Eisberg, but after falling at home to James Island the Hanahan squad will turn things around and take down Timberland.

Miller, on the other hand, says Timberland hands Hanahan a second loss - and further goes on to win the state title.

Tune in next week to see how the Miller and Eisberg fared and see next week's picks.
