Too late to land, Charleston flight sent to Columbia
CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- A Charleston-bound flight was diverted to Columbia overnight because it was approaching the Holy City too late for it to land.
According to officials, Joint Base Charleston's contractor was working on the runway intersection, so a notice to airmen was issued to all airlines that the runway would be closed after 12:15 a.m. Friday.
Airport officials said a Delta Airlines flight left Atlanta shortly after midnight and could not land at Charleston International Airport, so it was sent on to Columbia.
Airport officials stressed Friday that all of the airlines were notified of the runway closure.
