SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCIV) -- Summerville Elementary School teacher Kathy Green was featured on Live with Kelly and Michael Tuesday morning.

Green, a top 5 finalist in the 4th Annual Top Teacher Search, got a standing ovation when she walked out onto the set.

"My fourth grade teacher inspired me to become a teacher," Mrs. Green said on the show. "because she made each person in that classroom feel like they were valued. There was not one invisible person in my fourth grade class."

It's an emphasis that Green brings into her own classroom, which she calls "Green Land." As each student enters, they are greeted with a smile, hello and a handshake.

"I try to make them feel like this room will not function if you're not here," she said.

A video segment showcased the special gifts Mrs. Green brings through the eyes of her students and their parents.

Meanwhile, it's the gifts of students that Green tries to focus on.

"For me, my job is to find the strength and goodness in each child so during the first couple of weeks of school I look at each child individually and I try to tap in to what I see as their strong points," said Green. "So perhaps if you're weak at math or you're weak in social studies but you're a fantastic artist, I build on that so that you start to feel that you are great and you have a gift that can be shared."

On the show, Kelly and Michael presented Mrs. Green with a Top Teacher Award and announced that LIVE is presenting her with their own gift - 30 Intel Inspired Toshiba Ultrabook Convertibles for her class, as well as a $5,000 gift certificate at Talbots for herself.

The segment closed out with all three of them dancing, inspired by the moves of the Summerville Elementary Steppers shown in the video.
