Towne Centre Farmers Market gives vendors 'pride'
MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCIV) -- Saturday marked the Grand Opening of the second season of the farmers market at Mount Pleasant Towne Centre. There in hopes of doing business was Owl's Nest Plantation -- a farm responsible for organic products found in many Lowcountry restaurants.
Representatives from Owl's Nest Plantation say farmers markets throughout the Lowcountry are important to their business. Adding the market at Mount Pleasant Towne Centre to their list was a no-brainer.
"It's a part of our business. We are at four different markets throughout the week," said Logan Fisher of Owl's Nest Plantation. "Unbeknownst to a lot of people, Farmers markets in the Lowcountry play a big part. ...Farmers markets play a big part in people's lives."
Fisher said the local markets are not only good for business and good for the local economy, but they also give people a sense of pride.
"There's a little bit of patriotism when it comes to our natural produce, whether it be meats or vegetables or seafood. Anything that is produced here locally has a pride effect to it. It has a great appeal, especially for people in this area.
The Towne Centre Farmers Market will be held each Saturday morning from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. through July 14.
