Traffic shut down on Highway 17 in Mt. Pleasant

MT. PLEASANT, S.C. (WCIV) -- Wind-blown power lines created backups on Highway 17 in Mt. Pleasant Wednesday evening.{}

According to officials, the intersection at Shelmore and Johnnie Dodds boulevards was shut down while crews repaired the lines. Initially, officials said there was a blown transformer in the area.

Officials said at 6 p.m. that power had been restored to everyone in the area. {}

Traffic was backed up in both north and southbound directions. Police officers were directing traffic onto frontage roads around the area.{}

At the scene, few businesses appeared to be without power. Other news agencies reported downed lines in the area, but none were visible{}

Officials have not said how long the intersection would be shut down or what caused the transformer to blow.{}
