CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- A driver and his passenger were arrested Thursday night after allegedly leading police on a short chase and throwing drugs out of the car.

Randolph Drake, 46, was driving the car, Charleston police said Friday. He is charged with failure to stop for blue lights, trafficking cocaine base, possession with intent to distribute cocaine, simple possession of marijuana and driving under suspension.

Claudine Johnson, 46, is charged with trafficking cocaine base and possession with intent to distribute cocaine.

Police say they tried to stop the 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse at 9:44 p.m. Thursday on Main Road traveling toward Savannah Highway. After a short chase along Main Road, drugs were thrown from the vehicle.

"The driver turned onto Patton Avenue, eventually coming to a stop at his residence (3525 Patton Ave.)," Maj. Jim Brady of the Charleston Police Department said in a news release.
