Trio charged in Surfside Beach sex assault
SURFSIDE BEACH, S.C. (WCIV) -- Three Lowcountry men were charged with a sex assault in Surfside Beach Saturday night, local officials announced Monday.
According to Surfside Beach police officials, 30-year-old James Wesley Starks, Jr., 28-year-old Timothy Starks and 28-year-old Sherwood Edward Johnson were charged with first-degree criminal sexual conduct, kidnapping, and strong armed robbery.
The two Stark men are being held on a $45,000 bond. Johnson's bond was set at $60,000, officials said.
According to police, officers were sent to a convenience store around 3:40 a.m. Saturday where they found a female victim who said she met the three men at a Myrtle Beach club and asked them for a ride home.
Instead of taking her home, police said, the three men drove her to Surfside Beach and then assaulted and robbed her.
Surfside Beach police told nearby agencies of the crime and released a description of the car the men were in, which led to their arrest by Georgetown County deputies, officials said.
