Tropical Storm Karen moving northward through Gulf of Mexico
CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- Tropical Storm Karen has formed in the Gulf of Mexico, and a watches and warnings are in effect along the Gulf Coast from Louisiana to Florida.
The storm formed Thursday morning and is currently 250 miles south-southwest of the mouth of the Mississippi River and has maximum sustained winds of 50 mph.
The Hurricane Watch was in effect from Grand Isle, La., to west of Destin, Florida. A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect from Morgan City, Louisiana to the mouth of the Pearl River. A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect metro New Orleans area, Lake Maurepas, Lake Pontchartrain and Destin to Indian Pass, Florida.
Karen was moving north-northwest at 10 mph through the Gulf of Mexico.
