TSA opens Pre-Check center for Charleston airport travelers

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- The Transportation Security Administration opened a new site for its Pre-Check application program for air travelers in Charleston.{}

The temporary site is at the Coastal Glass Business Center on Ashley Phosphate Road in North Charleston. The permanent site will be at 1954 Ashley River Road in West Ashley.{}

The program lets frequent travelers leave on their shoes, belt, lightweight outerwear, keep their laptop in its case, and carry compliant liquids as a carry-on.

To enroll in the Pre-Check program, there is a prescreening application on the TSA website. After that, applicants make an appointment and complete their enrollment at the application center to verify their identity, present documentation to confirm their citizenship/immigration status and provide fingerprints.

The application center is open Tuesday-Friday: 8:30 a.m.-noon and 1-4 p.m.{} Applicants with questions can contact the Universal Enrollment Call Center at 1-855-347-8371 Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.-10 p.m.{}

TSA is currently in the process of expanding to more than 300 application centers across the country.
