All but one horse saved following wreck on I-95

COLLETON, S.C. (WCIV) -- Everyone from the firefighters, to veterinarians and animal control did everything they could to save horses involved in a wreck on the interstate.

The Colleton County Fire-Rescue Department responded to the overturned{}horse trailer on I-95 not long after 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the middle of a rain storm just south of Walterboro.{}

Rescue crews had to remove sections of the trailer's roof to save the animals. Officials say two large holes were cut and the animals were removed from the situation.

Five horses were successfully rescued and taken to Edisto Equine, but one had to{}be euthanized. Authorities say two men were also inside the trailer when it crashed. One of the men suffered traumatic injuries, but officials say he should survive. The driver of the truck was not injured.

One lane of I-95 northbound was closed for three hours while crews worked the accident. The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
