Wanted man fails to evade deputies, taken down by K9
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (WCIV) -- Beaufort County deputies arrested a man early Tuesday morning after an extensive search through Hilton Head.
According to officials, 22-year-old Sergio Alexander Munoz was arrested shortly after 1 a.m. after fleeing from deputies Monday evening. Deputies said he was wanted for pointing and presenting a firearm, possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime, and assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature.
The charges, officials said, stem from a July 20 incident in Bluffton when Munoz allegedly followed a woman home, threatened her and fired a gun into the air.
At the time of the incident, Munoz was wearing a court-ordered GPA ankle monitor, which led officers to an Allenwood home. Munoz tried to escape by car and eventually tried to run from pursuing officers, the report states.
After negotiations to get Munoz out of a School Road mobile home failed, a SWAT team was sent in to find him. One officer spotted him underneath the mobile home, according to officials.
According to deputies, Munoz tried to resist but a K9 unit subdued him and he was taken into custody. As a result, he will also face charges of resisting arrest and fleeing to evade arrest.
