What's new at the Coastal Carolina Fair?

LADSON, S.C. (WCIV) - It's one of the best{}events surrounding the season of fall in the Lowcountry. The Coastal Carolina Fair kicks off on Thursday at 3 p.m. at the Exchange Park in Ladson. This year marks the 56th year for the fair.

The fair runs 11 days until Sunday, November 4th. For the first time ever in 56 years, the fair will be open for a full extra day.

"We are proud to tell you this year that we added an extra day, we will be open a second Sunday which I am very pleased with," said Joe Bolchoz of the Charleston Exchange Club. "It took us 56 years to do that but we did it, and we will be opening early on Saturday at 10 o'clock instead of 12 both Saturdays-- that will give people a chance to enjoy the fair more."

This year the fair is jammed packed with 75 food vendors and 66 rides, four more rides than last year. Bolchoz says the best thing about coming to the fair is that it is affordable. Admission is free for kids 5 years and younger and just $5 for children ages 6 to 12. Admission for adults is just $8 a person. Bolchoz says ticket prices have not changed for the Fair in the past 5 years.

"We recommend if you can do it during the week, traffic is more moderate the crowds are a little smaller, there is nothing here on the weekend that is not here during the week," Bolchoz said. "Everything operates full till when we are in operation."

And best of all, all that famous fair food.

"New this year in the frying area, everyone is always asking what we are frying, and this year we are frying, believe it or not, a gummy bear," Bolchoz said. "And this gummy bear is 9 inches high and they are going to batter it up and fry it and it's been very popular at locations."

"Fried butter will be back, fried snicker bars, and fried Twinkies, so you name it and we'll fry it."

The Coastal Carolina Fair is held at the Exchange Park in Ladson and runs from Thursday,{}October 25th to Sunday,{}November 4th.
