JOHNS ISLAND, S.C. (WCIV) -- Police responded to the CVS on Maybank Highway Friday just before 10 p.m. for reports of a robbery in progress.
According to the report, the suspects were gone by the time police arrived.
The front counter clerk told police two men wearing dark pants and dark hoodies came in just before closing and went straight past her without saying anything, keeping their faces turned away from her. She said one man went to the pharmacy and the other went into aisle two so she went to the manager's booth in the corner of the store to tell her boss about them.
The pharmacy clerk said that she was on the phone with a friend when the suspect in a brown hoodie came up to her and held up a white sheet of paper with "multi-colored words handwritten on it" that said "OXYCOTTON" (sic) OR "OXYCODONE."
The clerk said she told her friend she was being robbed and her friend didn't believe her. She said that's when the robber said "This is really happening" and "You have 30 seconds."
The clerk describes the suspect as being so short (between 5'03" and 5'06"), his head barely cleared the top of the counter. He's also described as having "fake hair or a big afro" that made the hoodie "bulk out."
While the clerk told police the suspect never showed a weapon, she said she was afraid so she put the drugs into a white trash bag that he had thrown her way. She said he then left through the rear exit and shouted "Woohoo" as he ran.
The taller suspect in a black hoodie (described as being about 5'10-6') fled from the store through the front entrance soon after the front clerk came back to the registers.
